Rottweilers Breeders - Official Standard Tips
Rottweilers are medium sized, muscular and hard boned. The skeleton and the muscles give the dog a balanced and compact constitution that underscores agility, strength and hard push. The length of the body must slightly exceed the height at the withers, the proportion being 9/10. Chest goes half height deep. Bitches are smaller than dogs. Incorrect proportion is a very serious fault.
Bitches: 22 to 25 inches
Dogs: 24 to 27 inches
Rottweilers Breeders - Head
Head is medium long. Ears are placed far apart. The forehead is smooth. Slight wrinkling may occur when a dog is being watchful. The profile view reveals a slight curvature of the forehead. Both jaws are strong and highly moveable. The preferable proportion of backskull to muzzle is 3 to 2.
Eyes are dark brown and almond shaped. Ears are triangular, pendant and bent forward. The internal side should cling tight against the head, reaching the middle of the cheek. When alert, ears are horizontal, which makes forehead appear broader. Muzzle is sufficiently broad, the lips are black, the inside of the mouth is preferably dark. Dentition presupposes the presence of the scissors bite. The upper incisors cover the lower incisors. The number of teeth is strictly defined (20 upper and 22 lower).
Rottweilers Breeders - Body
The neck is powerful and muscular. The back is parallel to the ground even when running. A Rottweiler's chest is oval, well sprung and volumetric. Loin is muscular and short. Rump is wide, medium
length and a little slanting. The stomachs of adult Rottweilers are slightly tucked up. The tail is short and it emphasizes the backline. When a dog is running or emotional, the tail is a trifle pulled up.
Forequarters are perfectly proportionate to hindquarters. The elbow is in the middle between the withers and the ground. The length of the shoulder blade equals that of the forearm. The paws are thick boned and muscular, the pasterns being near perpendicular to the ground. Toes are even and properly turned. Hindquarters add to the entire balance of the body, being as muscular and developed as the forequarters. Rear legs are longer than forelegs. They are also set well apart and are close to perpendicular to the ground.

Rottweilers Breeders - Coat
Coat is dense and straight. Undercoat must be on neck and thighs and must be visible under outer coat. The outer coat is black with clearly outlined brown or mahogany markings. They should occupy no more than 10 % of the body. The markings should be placed in the following way: on both sides of the muzzle and on the underside of the chin. There must be a spot above each eye, a triangular mark on both sides of prosternum and on the lower part of the front legs. The front of hind legs has markings, descending from stifle to toes and broadening. The rump is marked under the tail.
Rottweilers Breeders - Gait and Temperament
Gait is light and effortless. The motion of hind- and forelegs is even and well coordinated. Such manner of running shows the ability of the dog to cover many miles a day with no indication of fatigue. As the speed grows higher, the front- and the hind paws tend to converge at the mid-quarters.
BST includes temper and courage tests. Loyalty, obedience and fidelity are of paramount importance. Rottweilers also
should be trained to withstand sudden loud and sharp sounds, like gunshots and explosions. The endurance of Rottweilers is checked during long runs along with the masters.
